Readers Respond: My Biggest Furniture Buying Blunder

Have you ever made a furniture buying blunder? You know, the kind that makes you question your judgment?

We can all make blunders. It could be an online deal that seems too good to be true, a sofa that's too big, or even a piece of furniture we really didn't want or need, but got caught up in the excitement of the auction. OK, I confess, that last bit actually happened to me. I was able to use that wardrobe, but every time I looked at it I was reminded of how I really didn't need to buy it.

Couch Calamity

We bought a couch and a loveseat for our third floor walk-up and the love-seat just barely fit through the hallways. The couch had to be stored in our basement until we could figure out what to do with it. I purchased them both for $65 and decided to resell them for $100! Close call

Size of Furniture is Important

I bought 2 large couches and when I picked out the coffee table and end tables, I never even gave the size a thought, HUGE mistake!! The coffee table and end tables were so small compared to the couches, I actually had to use them in a different room, that is how bad they looked!

A tall coffee table

My wife & I just moved in a new apartment lately. We bought a coffee table for our living room and later on realized it wasn't a good fit. It was 30 days later we discovered it. So, my advice is take your time to shop..don;t rush into making a decision. Jay Chua Publisher, PorchSwingSets.com

Second Floor from www.bedframes.net

The worst was a sectional with a sleeper built in that we delivered to an apartment. That was tough! It took five guys to push it up the side and to pull it over the balcony. Chris Dyson www.bedframes.net

The Too Big Sofa

OK, my room is large enough, and once you get through the entry you forget that it is narrow. Which is what I did. My sofa, which has rolled arms could not get through the front door. We tried the backdoor. Didn't work. So the delivery man then took the screen off of the window and he was able to fit it through there. It still rubbed against the window frame which had dirt on the outside, and you guessed it, my sofa got dirty even before I could set it up in the room. I should have measured my entry, but why do they make such narrow entries in the first place?
