IKEA, the world's leading furniture retailer, expanded its presence in the United States with a fall 2006 opening north of Austin. The discount furniture retailer continues to make good on its plans to roll out three to five new stores annually in the U.S.

In addition to Austin, IKEA unveiled its suburban Detroit store in June 2006, and launched in Salt Lake City in spring 2007, and Portland, Oregon, in summer 2007. The Sunrise, Fla., and Orlando stores open in fall 2007, with a Tampa store scheduled for summer 2009. Ohio will get its first store in fall 2007 when IKEA opens in West Chester, just north of Cincinnati. Look for launches in Brooklyn, Somerville, Mass., and Dublin, Calif., in the near future, as well.

IKEA is the world's leading home furnishings retailer, with more than 230 stores in 33 countries. Each of its new U.S. stores will feature 50 different room settings, a supervised play area for children and a restaurant serving Swedish specialities.
