There is a much wider selection of earth friendly and green furniture available today, as you can see from the furniture featured here. This furniture is green to varying degrees, but it shows a trend.
Many companies in the industry have committed to conservation and environmental stewardship, with an increase in green home furnishings in today's marketplace. A tremendous amount of research and development has gone into it.
Jackie Hirschaut, the Vice President of American Home Furnishings Alliance, says that the development of everything from adhesives and foam to fabric and finishes has resulted in an impressive array of eco-friendly furnishings.
For instance, manufacturers increasingly replace a portion of petroleum-based ingredients with soybeans-based cushioning materials. Cargill trademarked a brand of this soybean-based ingredient called BIOH and claims that every 1 million pounds of BIOH that replaces petroleum-based ingredients saves about 2,200 barrels of crude petroleum.
