The 11 Best TV Stands of 2024

Functional and attractive pieces for your family's entertainment needs

A TV stand we recommend on an orange background

The Spruce / Amelia Manley

A TV stand is a multitasking piece of furniture, providing a place to display your television, organize cable and streaming devices, and store books and decorative accents.  While they're mostly meant to support the weight of your TV, these pieces also double as centerpieces for living rooms, dens, or anywhere else you keep a TV in your home. The right TV stand can add to your overall aesthetic and offer storage space, room for tech accessories, and even display pieces of home decor.

We recommend looking for a TV stand with cable organization to keep your devices tangle-free. It's also important to measure your television and pay attention to the maximum size and weight of a television that a stand can support. We researched the most popular TV stands available online, evaluating ease of assembly, sturdiness, and organizational value as well as aesthetics.

What We Like
  • Eye-catching silhouette

  • Large enough for big TVs

  • Open shelving

What We Don't Like
  • Assembly instructions aren’t very clear

  • Can take some time to assemble

The Wade Logan Michaelson Media Console makes the perfect companion to your TV within any mid-century modern-styled space. Featuring clean, sharply angled lines and a sense of style right out of the 1950s and 1960s, this TV stand is both cool enough for present-day tech needs and retro in its attention-grabbing design. Built out of solid and engineered wood, it can hold up to 99 pounds of weight and accommodates flatscreen TVs up to 65 inches.

Open shelving provides space for receivers, consoles, magazines, and more, and there’s even a cable management cutout in the back of the unit to feed cords and wires through. Each shelf can hold up to 11 pounds.

Some assembly is required to put this TV stand together, and it can take some time to assemble. The instructions aren’t the clearest, but it’s a minor inconvenience. Once this stand is together, the mid-century modern style looks high-end wherever it’s placed, and that’s without a high price tag!

Size: 24 x 71 x 14.02 inches | Material: Solid and manufactured wood | Weight Capacity: 66 pounds | TV Compatibility: Can support up to 65-inch TVs

  • Solid wood construction

  • Several finishes available

  • Enclosed storage to hide clutter

  • Built-in cable management

What We Don't Like
  • Cannot be cleaned with household cleaners

The Livingston Media Console isn’t a cheap piece, but its price is justified by its versatility and high-quality construction. The stand is made from kiln-dried solid wood and wood veneer, and it features tempered glass doors, plus English dovetail joinery, and smooth ball-bearing glides on the drawers for unbeatable durability. It’s available in four finishes.

This media console is 70 inches wide, allowing you to display a large TV on top of it, and it even has levelers to ensure it's stable on uneven surfaces. The inner shelf can be adjusted to seven different heights, and there are wire cutouts at the back to accommodate electronics. We wish this cabinet could be wiped down in the case of a sticky spill, but the product listing advises against using harsh abrasives or household cleaners. We recommend always using a coaster on this TV stand because of its finish.

If you’re shopping on a budget, the Convenience Concepts Designs2Go 3-Tier TV Stand is a simple and affordable option. It has a three-level design that can hold a TV up to 42 inches, and it’s made from a stainless steel frame with particleboard shelves in between. The shelves are available in several finishes, and overall, the piece has a sleek, modern appearance.

This TV stand is 31.5 inches tall and just over 22 inches wide, so it can easily fit into small spaces if needed. Its two lower shelves are the perfect spot to put TV accessories, and the whole piece is extremely simple to assemble, requiring just four steps.

Size: 31.5 x 15.75 x 22.25 inches | Material: Particleboard | Weight Capacity: 85 pounds | TV Compatibility: Can support up to 42-inch TVs

What We Like
  • Compact design

What We Don't Like

The Amer TV Stand is just 36 inches wide, allowing it to be tucked into small spaces in your home. This stand has an enclosed cabinet with glass doors, as well as an open shelving area, and it’s built from a combination of solid and manufactured wood, making it extremely durable. It even comes in several finishes, allowing you to pick one that perfectly matches your decor.

Because of its compact size, this TV stand is best suited for televisions under 40 inches that weigh less than 100 pounds. The shelf inside the lower cabinet can be adjusted to suit your needs, and both the cabinet and upper shelf have cord management cutouts to prevent wires from cluttering up your space.

Size: 36 x 15.5 x 35.5 inches | Material: Solid pine, birch veneers, manufactured wood | Weight Capacity: 80 lbs | TV Compatibility: Can support up to 40-inch TVs

What We Like
  • Solid wood construction

  •  Ample enclosed storage

  • Suitable for extra-large TVs

What We Don't Like
  • Only one cable hole

For a large living space, you may want an oversized media console, such as the Dakota TV Stand. This beautifully made piece is 79 inches long, allowing you to place a TV up to 88 inches on top of it. It can support up to 250 pounds, thanks to its durable solid acacia wood construction.

The Dakota TV Stand has four drawers along the top, as well as lower sliding doors that reveal inner shelving for accessories and consoles. The doors feature vertical slats for a pop of texture, and the whole piece is mounted on a black metal frame with gold caps on the legs for a mid-century appearance. The stand has a cable management slot in the back that you can thread wires through, but the downside is there’s just one hole in the center, making it hard to store electronics on either side of the large piece.

Size: 79 x 16 x 25.5 inches | Material: Solid wood, iron, steel | Weight Capacity: 250 pounds | TV Compatibility: Can support up to 88-inch TVs

What We Like
  • Budget-friendly price

  • Plenty of shelving for storage

  • Shelving can be customized and expanded

What We Don't Like
  • Shelving can bow over time with weight

Combine living room storage space with a TV stand that can work with sizes up to 60 inches wide with the Ikea LAPPLAND media storage unit. Featuring both a center TV stand and side shelving units, you’ll have plenty of space for, well, everything you need to display or keep near your TV. Made out of particleboard in a black-brown hue, this piece also offers flexibility in how you set up your storage. You can place the shelving units to the left or right. Either way, with cubes of storage space underneath the TV itself and along one side, you can easily find room for remotes, consoles, controllers, photos, and so much more. A convenient cutout helps keep wires and cords organized, too.

With its affordable price and easy-to-assemble design, this storage-filled stand is a versatile pick. Keep in mind that it isn’t constructed out of solid wood; so putting too much weight on the shelves can cause them to bow over time. This stand is a great solution for both added storage space and TV support.

Size: 57.875 x 72 x 15.375 inches | Material: Particleboard and fiberboard | Weight Capacity: 55 pounds (TV weight) | TV Compatibility: Fits TVs between 24 and 55 inches

What We Like
  • Soft-close doors

  • Natural cane and wood

  • TV controls work easily through the rattan

What We Don't Like
  • Rattan is delicate

  • Damage can happen during shipping

If you want a TV stand that’s style-forward, Article’s Candra Media Unit is a standout pick that makes a statement in any room. Made out of solid wood and cane rattan, this stand features sleekly curved sides and soft-close doors that keep your electronics (and all those cords and cables) out of sight. The woven rattan makes for an eye-catching centerpiece in any living room or den—and this TV stand is also one-of-a-kind, thanks to the natural variations in color and grain of both the cane and wood. Oh, and it holds plenty inside its soft-close doors, with two shelves and room for consoles, receivers, remotes, and more.

Keep in mind that because rattan is a more delicate material, this TV stand can see some damage during shipping. Fortunately, Article offers solid customer service and a 30-day satisfaction guarantee, which means you can easily have any potential problems resolved so you wind up with a stunning, flawless rattan TV stand.

Size: 21 x 63 x 18 inches | Material: Natural cane rattan, solid American ash, and rubber wood | Weight Capacity: Not listed | TV Compatibility: Not listed

What We Like
  • High-quality construction

  • Built-in cable management and soundbar shelf

  • Built-in electric fireplace

What We Don't Like
  • Very heavy if assembling

If you’re searching for a TV stand that’ll fit seamlessly into a farmhouse-style living space, the Hungerford Fireplace TV Stand is a great option. It’s one highly comprehensive TV stand, as it doesn’t just offer a place to set your flatscreen; it has storage space, sliding barn doors that feel perfectly farmhouse-inspired, a soundbar shelf, cable management cutouts, and even a remote-controlled electric fireplace all built right in. It can hold up to 350 pounds, allowing you to stash all of your living room essentials right on its hidden shelves. Featuring two hideaway storage cabinets, it’s also an ideal pick for those who need more available storage space.

The electric fireplace is a nice feature, especially for those whose living rooms don’t feature a traditional fireplace. However, because this TV stand is so feature-filled, it's more expensive. It’s also very heavy, so you won’t want to move it around often or without help.

Size: 38.5 x 66 x 18.625 inches | Material: Solid and manufactured wood | Weight Capacity: 350 pounds | TV Compatibility: Can support up to 70-inch TVs

What We Like
  • Multiple configurations

  • Magnetic cord organizer

  • High weight capacity

What We Don't Like
  • Arrives in multiple packages

The Floyd Media Console is a thoughtfully crafted piece of furniture that's super durable and easy to assemble. You can choose one of three configurations for the media console, which all feature open shelving and the option to have one cabinet or two side-by-side. Magnetic clips also come with the console, so you can easily organize your cords out of sight and keep them tangle-free.

We love the high weight capacity of this console, so you can easily place a TV up to 65 inches wide on top of it and place heavier items like books and speakers on the shelves. We wish the console didn't arrive in multiple packages because it makes the assembly process feel overwhelming. However, the brand's proprietary design on the TV stand promises an easy and quick assembly.

Size: 24 x 59.2 x 13 inches | Material: Plywood and powder-coated steel | Weight Capacity: 325 pounds | TV Compatibility: Can support up to 65-inch TVs

What We Like
  • Interactive online instructions

  • 3-in-1 TV display options

  • Concealed cable management

What We Don't Like
  • Lower weight capacity

The Whalen Furniture Payton 3-in-1 Flat Panel TV Stand is perfect for anyone who wants the look of a mounted television but doesn't want to drill holes into a wall. You can place your TV directly on the top shelf of this stand, use the swivel stand, or wall-mount the TV. We love this TV stand's versatility for both small and large spaces.

The stand has several steps in its assembly process, but we love that there's an interactive tutorial available online. Like other picks in this list, the Payton TV Stand has concealed cable management, where you can wrap the excess length of cords around hooks to keep them neatly hidden. We wish this TV stand had a slightly higher weight capacity, but it's one of the smallest stands on our list, so this isn't a total dealbreaker.

Size: 54 x 21 x 55.5 inches | Material: Not listed | Weight Capacity: 135 pounds | TV Compatibility: Can support up to 65-inch TVs

What We Like
  • Modern design with classic materials

  • Adjustable cabinet shelves

  • Detailed online assembly instructions

What We Don't Like
  • Lower weight limit on top shelf

The Nathan James Rattan & Wood 2-Door TV Cabinet is a great option for anyone looking for a minimalist TV stand. We love that it's just as suited for a minimalist home as it would be for grand millennial decor. The mix of sleek metal accents with the texture of the rattan front panels on the cabinet doors is a great modern element to such a classic material and furniture shape.

The shelves within the cabinets are also adjustable, but the central open shelf is fixed. This cabinet should be easy to assemble, and the instruction manual is available online, boasting a quick 45-minute assembly time. We wish the weight limit was slightly higher for the top shelf on this cabinet, as it can only support up to 100 pounds; however, that should be plenty for the maximum recommended TV size of 50 inches (diagonal).

Size: 47 x 22 x 15.5 inches | Material: Engineered wood, laminate, metal, and rattan | Weight Capacity: 300 pounds | TV Compatibility: Can support up to 50-inch TVs

What to Look for in a TV Stand

TV Compatibility

Most TV stands will specify the maximum size of TV they can accommodate. The manufacturer should also include a weight limit for the top of the stand. When measuring your TV to make sure it will fit, remember that TV measurements are taken on the diagonal. If you have separate sound equipment, like a receiver or a soundbar, we recommend measuring those as well. This ensures it will fit within the shelf measurements.

The Laurel Foundry Modern Farmhouse 66-inch Hungerford Fireplace TV Stand has our list's highest total weight capacity at 350 pounds. However, there are a few trade-offs to remember if you opt for a higher-weight-capacity TV stand. The weight of your TV stand is also likely to be higher. The Hungerford TV Stand weighs almost 200 pounds, but part of that is due to the built-in fireplace. Smaller TV stands, like the Convenience Concepts Designs2Go 3-Tier TV Stand, are often more lightweight and support smaller TVs for dorm rooms, studio apartments, and bedrooms.

Material

As with a lot of furniture, you can choose between a heavy TV stand made of solid wood or a lighter, but less sturdy, MDF (medium-density fiberboard). MDF furniture is usually less expensive, but it often needs to be assembled, and it can show wear and tear more quickly than solid wood. The Ikea Lappland TV Storage Unit is made of fiberboard, so we recommend being cautious about over-stuffing the shelves. It can only hold a maximum weight of 55 pounds in the television slot; however, it's a great choice for anyone who wants their TV stand to double as a bookcase or shelf.

Metal frames with wood or glass shelves are less common but tend to be durable. The Floyd Media Console is a mixture of plywood and powder-coated steel, making it a very durable option and a very easy-to-assemble design.

Cord Management

TV stands often have cabinets and shelves to help keep video games, routers, and sound systems neatly organized. Since these shelves and cabinets are inevitably used for plug-in devices, make sure there are holes in the back of the TV stand you select. All TV stands on our list have at least one hole in the back of their cabinets or shelves for cord organization (except the Convenience Concepts Designs2Go 3-Tier TV Stand because it is completely open shelving).

Two of the TV stands on our list have unique cord organization designs. The Floyd Media Console has magnetic clips that run along the back of the top shelf to keep cords tangle-free. The Whalen Payton 3-in-1 Flat Panel TV Stand has hooks (similar to what you see on a vacuum) that you can wrap excess cord length around and prevent cords from bunching behind the console.

FAQ
  • How wide should a TV stand be?

A TV stand should generally be at least as wide as the TV placed on top of it, and you should always check to see what size TV the stand is compatible with. “A good rule of thumb is to have a few inches on each side of the TV to add photos or decor pieces,” says Day. “Something that is also very important to consider is the height of all your pieces. For instance, if your couch sits lower to the ground, you don’t want to opt for a tall TV stand. Be sure to measure before investing in a TV stand.”

  • What is the best height for a TV stand?

The ideal height for a TV stand places the center of the television screen at or just below eye level from where you’ll be seated. Measure the height from the bottom of the floor to the average line of sight of a TV viewer. From there, deduct half of the television’s height. The best TV stand height is within an inch or two of that difference.

For optimal television viewing, the average television placement should be 42 inches from the floor to the center of the screen. However, you should also consider the television size and your personal seating and viewing preferences when determining the best height.
