Colors, patterns, and finishes for furniture and home furnishings, tend to change from time to time. Manufacturers would sometimes have us believe that the change happens every year, and that that the "color of the year" leaves as soon as a new year and its attendant color comes along.
But experts now tell us that color trends will have extended lifespans. Consumers have finally succeeded in letting the home furnishings industry know that they don't want to discard their color choices overnight.
There are many reasons for holding on to a color choice. It takes a while to warm up to a color, and see its many possibilities and applications. And then just as one is beginning to get the hang of it, one finds out that color is outdated. It is not easy to keep changing out colors, just because trend forecasters say that a certain color is in, or out, whether it is in home fashion or clothing.
Home professionals say that now instead of changing color out, they will use color differently. One of the ways to do that is to use unusual and creative color combinations. That is something that astute buyers have been doing for a while, anyway.
Speaking of unusual color combinations, one of the inspirations for this year is anime, with its irreverent and youthful attitude.
Pantone has a Wit and Whimsy palette for 2011, which is a vibrant, happy mix which features Carrot, Deep Sea Coral along with Bright Chartreuse, Empire Yellow, Sea Pink and cool blue and green tones.
