A convertible crib is a bed that grows with your child. When buying kid's furniture, it makes sense to ask if it will be usable in the years to come. A convertible crib has that potential.

For that reason, one of the trends in kids furniture is the growing popularity of convertible cribs. These cribs convert into toddler beds, and in many cases, these toddler beds will then convert into twin or full beds for older children, and some can continue to be used right through their teenage years.

You can convert these cribs to toddler mode simply by removing one side. At that point the bed still bears the basic look of the crib. The close resemblance to a crib means toddlers can adjust more easily and have an easier time transitioning to a new bed.

Things to Consider

  • As you look to make changes in your convertible crib, you might require parts that are not included with the original purchase, such as additional bed rails, stabilizing rails, or support rails (for converting to a full-size bed).
  • The convertible crib may cost a little more than an ordinary crib initially.
  • Using the same bed over a long period of time has an advantage as it is less expensive than constantly having to change beds.
