Since there's a vast array of specialty sleep mattresses and beds out there, choosing the right one really comes down to your own needs and preferences. Knowing all the options you have will help you pick out the bed that is right for you.

Consider Your Needs

One specialty sleep mattress is not the same as another, and they do not all have the same features, so it is a good idea to do some research based on your needs and preferences.

  • You desire the flexibility of adjusting your bed to your own personal level of comfort.
  • You are looking for good support from your mattress to help with pressure points that cause you to toss and turn.
  • You need a bed that provides allergy control.
  • You need a bed that was manufactured in a sustainable way and uses green materials.

    Explore your options

    There are many options available:
    • Adjustable Beds: An adjustable bed might be an option if you need to keep your head or legs elevated. A motorized mechanism lets you adjust the head and foot position to your preferred height to help alleviate pressure on back muscles or other parts of your body.
    • Air Beds: Air beds have a series of air chambers instead of springs, letting you customize the firmness of the bed.
    • Flotation Beds: That is the new name for waterbeds, and maybe they do deserve a new name as they are now built differently.
    • Latex Beds: Latex beds conform to body contours while providing back support and pressure relief. Latex is breathable, so it is warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Another advantage to latex is its resistance to microbes and dust mites, making it a good choice for allergy sufferers.
    • Visco Foam: The temperature-sensitive foam of Visco-elastic beds lets the mattress adjust to the contours of your body in response to body temperature. Visco is also a breathable material like latex and has the same benefits for allergy sufferers.
    • Combination Beds: Since it makes sense to combine all the different technologies and materials, manufacturers have created beds that combine certain features to provide even more choices.
