Thomasville Furniture, now a part of Furniture Brands International, Inc, is one of the oldest and best known American brands. Thomasville started manufacturing furniture in North Carolina nearly a century ago and has earned a reputation for its updated traditional style and high end furniture.

The company started out making a single product, a chair, but has grown to offer a variety of upholstered furniture and casegoods for every room of the house.

Thomsville sells its furniture through 150 independently owned Thomasville Home Furnishings Stores, with additional retailers carrying the line all across the U.S.

The Thomasville Brand

Thomasville offers an extensive selection of well made furniture. The company keeps updating its look, which is rooted in a traditional style, to stay with the times.

Thomasville is in the middle and upper middle price point, but since it is a quality brand, your furniture should last a long time. While not in the same league as Drexel-Heritage, Century or Henredon, it is certainly a cut above Lane, Broyhill, or Universal. You can compare it to Ethan Allen, which is another quality brand.

That said, remember there are no absolutes in furniture. One piece from a lesser known brand could be superior to one from a well known brand. While reputation can invite trust, shop with an eye to your own needs, look for the best quality you can find regardless of brand names.

A word on style. Don't look to Thomasville for cutting edge, modern furniture. While the company has characterized its furniture as belonging to four styles, traditional, worldly, casual and contemporary, all Thomasville furniture inspired by a traditional style. That is not necessarily a bad thing, as it is a tried and true style, but if you lean towards a modern style, look elsewhere.

As with most established brands, Thomasville gives you plenty of choice to customize when it comes to upholstered furniture with hundreds of fabrics to choose from. This could be too much of a good thing, because while it may sound good to be able to select from such a wide range, it can turn out to be a bewildering experience if you don't prepare for it in advance. It helps if you have narrowed your choices down to just a few colors, textures or patterns before you visit your local retailer or view fabric choices online.

Manufacturers have become aware of the growing demand for more customization and Thomasville is no exception. It lets you provide your own fabric and place a "COM" order. Thomasville will help you determine yardage based on the material's width and the dimensions of your furniture.

Another choice offered at Thomasville is the firmness of your sofa. You can also choose seat cushions ranging from soft to firm depending on your preference. Soft Loft and Plush Down are Thomasville's softest cushions while Spring Down and Comfort Crown are the firmest.

Sofas start at $1500, but prices go up depending on your choice of style or fabric. Prices also vary from region to region and store to store. To determine how much your Thomasville piece would cost you check with your local Thomasville store or retailer.

Thomasville Casegoods

Thomasville offers a full range of casegoods for all the different rooms in your home, such as dining rooms, bedrooms and home offices. It offers a good range of entertainment centers, occasional tables and shelving as well.

While most of the wood furniture at Thomasville is designed with a specific finish, its Color Café casual dining collection can be ordered in a variety of finishes. These casual dining items are available in a variety of styles so you can pick the styles and color combination you want. This provides a chance to get a dining room that reflects your own style and color preferences more closely using the 12 semi-transparent stains and 5 solid paint colors.

Corian tops are available on some tables with over 90 different colors to choose from.

Queen beds can begin around $1700 and a Color Cafe dining set with a table and 4 chairs at around $1900. A formal dining room set could be around $6000. But again, remember to check in your own area as prices may vary.

Bad quality, bad customer service, Member unhappycustomer1

We are extremely dissatisfied with our recent purchases from Thomasville of Augora Hills, CA both with the quality of the products and the post-sales customer service. It is appalling to me that after having spent over $11,000 on products that seem to be of good quality in the showroom but are of inferior quality with poor craftsmanship when delivered to your home. And when you call the store salesperson, who has now made her commission on the sale, you get told in the most unfriendly and unprofessional way that it is customer service who has to deal with the issue. Customer Services solution to all the problems is to have a sub-contractor come to your house to take pictures or quick fix your brand new “custom made” furniture. Off the 6 pieces of furniture, I have had issues with three of them. Our Ernest Hemingway accent table is not similar to the one that we saw in store and is imperfect on the table top. Thomasville’s solution…send the contractor to take pictures of the table, tell me nothing can be done or else exchange my brand new table with the floor model that has been, as per the customer service person, ”on the shop floor for 4-5 years”! Our $1400 per chair leather recliner came with a manufacturing defect that made the leather rub against a bolt and scar the leather. Once again, the same contractor comes to rip out the leather from a new chair, tighten it further so that it does not rub and use a leather polish to hide the scar. The final and most recent issue is our dining table and chairs. They arrive on April 26, 2013, almost 5 months after the order was placed. I refused accepting the delivery as the top of the pedestal of the dining table was cracked all around the rim with a chip around where they tried to put a screw in. Again, poor craftsmanship and what reflects poor customer service and lacks any quality control is that they sent the table to me, the customer, in that condition! An email to the President prompted a swift response and a call from CS who, at another customers expense, was to send me a replacement table. 18 days later, there are no calls and there is no table. If I had read reviews online before I spent so much money with them, I would have never bought furniture from them. Beware before you spend your money on extremely expensive, non-US made, poor quality furniture especially if you are in a hurry to set up your home.
