Using Halloween lights when decorating for Halloween is a given. After all, you want to light the way for little ghosts and goblins to reach your home safely to trick or treat. Besides safety, without Halloween lights your decor is bound to fall a little flat.
Flickering candles come to mind for the right Halloween ambiance. While regular wax candles with flickering flames always cast interesting light - and shadows - they can be risky around youngsters who're trying to manage their costumes, candy and excitement. Consider LED lights or battery operated lights as a safer option.
1. Black LED Candles
Grandin Road offers this set of two black battery operated LED candles. The fact that they are flameless adds much to their other attributes.
Nothing says Halloween like black candles that flicker to create the right ambiance. These candles are made from real wax, and to look at the dripped wax on the sides you would think they had been burning all night.
Since there is no flame you can safely place them indoors or out, and they are sized to fit most standard taper candle holders. 2 AA batteries required for each candle.
While these candles are a little more expensive than the other candles on our list, Grandin Road does have products that are a little better quality than most Halloween decor.
2. Witchy Flameless Candle
The Witchy Flameless Candle comes in a glowing Halloween orange color. Here too a flickering LED replaces the need for a flame, giving you light and making it safe to place anywhere, whether its your front porch or a window.
This candle is made of real wax, too looking very much like a pillar candle. The LED light is concealed inside the pillar, glowing like a real candle. It measures 4 3/8" H and is 3" in diameter. The Witchy Flameless Candle uses 3 AAA batteries, which are included.
3. Faux Flame Safe Halloween Pumpkin LED Candle
At Halloween you don't just want to use candles on their own for decor. You might need them to light up your jack o' lanterns. After all you put in time and effort carving them up, now you want to show them off. While the Witchy candle is great at Halloween, you can't really use it at other occasions.
What I like about these LED candles is that while they light up your pumpkins and other Halloween decorations, you can use them later for other holiday or party decorations. Use them year round if you wish. The candles are available in blue, red and green, and provide a gentle glow from an LED "flame" that is powered by 2 AA batteries which are included.
4. Orange And Black Battery-operated Votives
Orange and black are colors that you usually associate with Halloween. These votive candles are in keeping with the spirit. Use them at parties or to light up your steps or windows.
Since the set consists of twelve candles, 6 in orange and 6 in black, you can arrange them in different configurations. The candles come with an on/off switch, and batteries are included.
5. Battery Operated Jack O'Latern Lighted Halloween Candle
While votive candles are for lighting up jack o lanterns or illuminating windows, sometimes you need a little more visual effect.
This Lighted Battery Operated Halloween Candle sits on top of a jack o lantern providing some height for a visual effect. When you arrange your pieces, varying height always adds a little interest. The candle can be used in windows, or on tables and mantels.
The candle which is 3" wide at the base and 9.5" high, including the bulb, uses 2 AA batteries which are not included. However, a frosted C7 orange bulb comes with it.
6. Holiday Lights with Skull Covers for Halloween Lighting
A string of light can be used to dress up a window, fence, doorway, shrubs, trees or anything else you can think of. It is a change from lit candles, and the sparkle of lights can be added anywhere.
One string of these Halloween lights has 10 miniature bulbs, with skull covers. These white lights hang on a black cord illuminating white skulls. If a bulb burns out, the string still stays on. Each string also contains five extra bulbs with one flasher bulb, which allows the entire string to flash. One string is interconnectable for up to 3 strings.
A fused plug is added for an added level of protection and 1 spare fuse is included. This string of light is UL listed for indoor and outdoor use.
7. Terrys Village Halloween Flickering Taper Lights
These Halloween Flickering Taper Lights are fun and stylish. They will add an interesting touch to any Halloween decor.
While these tapers are made of plastic and not wax, they do have a little detail. They are traced with spider webs, and the flickering "flame" uses 2 AA batteries. Unforyunately the batteries are not included which is always a bother. Unless you are well organized and keep a stash of batteries, there could be last minute problems if you forget to get them.
The tapers are 10" high and come in sets of 2. You might want to get more than one set if you want to create an impact, make sure to use a stand for additional height.
8. Halloween Light-Up Ghost Figurine
If you are a football fan, why should Halloween be exempt from celebrating team spirit? Look through the countless plastic light up ghost figurines and you are bound to find one ghost that honors your team.
Each 20" plastic Halloween light-up ghost figurine is decked out in some team's jersey with team logo and colors. Your ghost comes with a lawn stake that makes it easy to install it and then take it down.
The ghost figurine is electrically powered and plugs easily into a standard outlet. It is approximately 20" high and 13" wide.
9. Purple Flocked Chandelier String Lights
From Grandin Road come the Halloween Chandelier String Lights. These string lights are weather resistant so you can use them indoors or outdoors.
The string lights feature orange mini light placed in the center of each chandelier, with a fun, campy look that comes from glass bead detailing. Made from mini flat plastic sheeting covered in flocking, each chandelier has a velvet-like feel.
These string lights would look good, festooned on trees, wrapped around chandeliers, or anywhere else you can think of hanging them. The chandelier string lights are available in either purple or black velvety flocking and beads. The lights are orange, and they can plug into any standard outlet. You can connect up to three strings to make a longer one.
10. Eyeball Lights with Blue Irises
And finally for some surreal fun add these giant bloodshot eyeballs to your Halloween decor. The Halloween Eyeball Light with Blue Irises from Grandin Road will be a sure attention getter.
A compelling piece, it requires a 25 watt bulb to light up the baleful stare. Use it in a window, or else where in the room. It is best used indoors, as it is not water proof.
A word of caution: Please be very careful with all your Halloween lights and when using outside, make sure it is safe to do so.
