Pantone has designated Emerald, or more precisely PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, to be the color of the year for 2013. Pantone describes it as a lively, radiant, lush green.
Last year's Tangerine Tango reflected a need to recharge and move forward. Emerald is not so much about charging forward as pausing to take a deep breath. It inspires insight and clarity, while also suggesting a sense of rejuvenation, balance and harmony.
Can one color do all that? It can act as a symbol. Emerald is a green, a color that we find everywhere in nature, and that gives it an association with growth, prosperity and abundance. For that reason many cultures and religions have also chosen green.
Emerald is also the name of a precious gemstone, giving it an aura of luxury. And as Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute says, "This powerful and universally appealing tone translates easily to both fashion and home interiors."
Let's take a look at how Emerald and other greens can dress up a home.
