It is heartbreaking, but despite warnings children continue to get hurt by falling furniture and TVs.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said that 2011 saw the largest number of TV and furniture tip-over injuries. It estimates that more than 43,000 consumers are injured each year in tip-over incidents. More than 59 % of those injured are children under 18 years old. Over half of the injuries happen as a result of falling furniture, while the rest are a result of TVs that tip over. More deaths are associated with falling TVs.
As flat screen televisions are brought into homes, older and often heavier TV sets are often relegated to other rooms. That is why a high number of fatalities occurred in bedrooms.

Unfortunately, it is done without any thought to placing them on proper furniture or using anchoring devices. Take a look at this PDF from CPSC to learn more.
These deaths and injuries are entirely preventable. Please anchor your TV and tall furniture for safety.
