Guess what kind of furniture affluent shoppers in China want to buy? American made furniture.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Ethan Allen already sells its furniture from about 77 stores and hopes to grow that number. Ashley, which sells at a completely different price point, opened its first store in China in 2012. Ashley plans on opening 15 more furniture stores there in 2013. Even retailers like Robb & Stuckey are eying the Chinese market and hoping to expand their operations there.
What makes American furniture popular in China? Buyers want it because they consider American made furniture to be well made, and it also looks more expensive.
